Earlier last week my dad asked me if I would create a website for our family farm, which I was more than happy to do, so I’ve been playing with that most of today. The design is close to being finished but some of the content will take awhile to be published because I’m not the one writing it. That’s actually fine with me because I’m probably a bit more at home playing with graphics and writing code.

And now for more crafty news.

On Thursday night I had an urge to make a needle book because I didn’t have anything decent to store my needles in (pin cushions are hopeless because needles can disappear inside, where they lie in wait to poke the crap out of your poor unsuspecting fingers!). I was feeling too lazy to design my own, so after much searching I finally found the cutest needle book pattern ever! Skebba designed the book to look like a letter which you unfold to reveal four pages inside for your needles. This is one of my most favourite designs for a functional item! Love, love, love.

My sewing is not overly neat because I’ve barely ever used a sewing machine, despite my mum owning one my entire life and my love of hand-sewing. One would think that I would have hours of experience, but no. I use the machine so little than every time I do use it I have to get Mum to show me how to thread it… However, I think I have finally unleashed the sewing machine junkie within me because I had a lot of fun. I even had to teach myself a couple of things (Mum had, um, gone to bed by this point so I couldn’t ask her, lol) as well: how to put new thread onto a bobbin, and how to catch the bobbin thread with the needle thread. Now I want to sew other things, but I’m not sure what. Any ideas?

Are you kidding me, brain?! Seriously, stop this nonsense, will you? I don’t have time to be twittering around with this stuff at such a leisurely pace, thank you very much!

I think I will have to come to a compromise and settle for tweaking the design that’s almost finished a little more, before I actually reveal it. I really like having fluid widths so that anyone using any screen resolution can view my site with relative ease, but the new design is not fluid and the width is quite large. While I know many people are using larger screen resolutions, there are some who still use 800×600 and I don’t want them to have to hassle with a horizontal scrollbar. Plus that would just irk me as it would feel marred and too imperfect. Not that my designs are ever perfect — that doesn’t exists — but I do like to shoot for it.

I forgot to write about going to see The Curious Case of Benjamin Button on Saturday. All I can really say is that it was a fantastic, enchanting, well-told story with wonderful actors who were a delight to watch. It definitely had me with a case of warm-fuzzies afterwards.

In other news, expect a new site design shortly. I started work on one yesterday and I should have it finished today or tomorrow, in hopes of putting it up either before the weekend, or early next week. This weekend in a long one as it’s Anniversary Weekend and we’re having a bunch of people to stay with their tents, plus it’s my nanna’s birthday on Saturday. Should a great time if the weather stays nice!

I also gave Mer de Noms a new design, featuring a great photograph of Saint Petersburg by Leo Pan. I spent some time looking at stock images of Russia this afternoon and have decided it’s now one of my favourite countries.

Yes, I fully admit that Paullina Simons’ The Bronze Horseman trilogy has had a major influence in my new found love for Russia. I am completely obsessed with those books and don’t mind who knows or how nuts people may think I am.
