20. Little Sister by Elvis Presley
Yay, Elvis! I love me some Elvis and I loooove this song.
I grew up with Pink Floyd’s music and can remember ‘Another Brick in The Wall’ from a very young age. It wasn’t until I was about 14 however, that I started getting into classic rock on my own, constantly listening to the nation-wide classic rock radio station, Radio Hauraki (pronounced how-racky). I basically thought that rock music from the ’60s and ’70s was a zillion times better than most other rock music. Sometimes the ’80s yielded good results (Pink Floyd, obviously) and ’90s grunge appealed, but modern rock? Ew, noooo. Haha.
Nowadays I’m a little less judgemental on modern rock, but only a bit.
Anyway, this song is my favourite Floyd track; it’s such a beautiful ballad and David Gilmore – my favourite Floyd member, I mean look at him back in the early days! Do not you want to have babies with that?? Serious ovary quiver material – sings it so beautifully.
This particular version was when all four almost-original (no Syd Barrett, obviously) members reunited for one show at the Live 8 concert. I peed my pants a little when I heard they were doing this. I watched the whole show live on TV, waiting to see these guys play, and then I totally cried when they did. Yeah, you could say I’m a bit of a fan.
David, if you ever read this, call me!
This was me and one of the cats I am looking after while I house-sit. Sandy and I were trying our best to warm each other an hour ago and basically failing miserably, unfortunately. Today has been very chilly in New Zealand, all over. While Auckland (my city) does receive its fair share of cold, wet, icky winter days, it does not snow here.
Or does it??
Maybe just for today, and only a teeny bit, of which I didn’t get to see (damnit). There were some flurries in the downtown area early in the afternoon, but I don’t think campus got any, which is only a few blocks away (I was in lecture). To the south of the city however, there was a bit more. You can see some photos of it here.
What I really want to do though, is share an awesome recipe with you all. On the weekend it was my sister’s birthday so I decided to try making salted caramel cupcakes. I’d never tried the flavour before but after having read about it on the web and heard about it on TV I just had to. Salt and sweet? Together? Count me in.
After Googling I found a recipe for Triple Salted Caramel cupcakes on Sprinkle Bakes and got to work Sunday morning. Naturally I completely forgot to take photos of the finished batch, but they looked much like ones on the website except without the candied caramel chips (I drizzled the rest of the caramel filling over the icing.
They were a total hit! Honestly, my god, I think that might be my new favourite cupcake flavour, actually. I definitely love the mix of sweet caramel with the hint of salt through it, and they’re so pretty! Next time I might not pipe so much icing onto each cupcake as it was maybe a bit much…okay, who am I kidding, no such thing!
Love and hugs, S.

Johnny Cash is an all-time favourite of mine and ‘Ring of Fire’ one of the greatest love songs ever, in my opinion. Co-written by June Carter before she and Johnny married, it’s about falling in love in love with him. June and Johnny are definitely one of the most awesome couples ever. If there’s an afterlife, I hope they’re off somewhere amazing together.

Hi guys, Weekly Goals is going on vacation to somewhere warm and expensive for a while. Things are getting ridiculously busy around here and I don’t find making uni-oriented goals for this feature at all thrilling! There’s not much time for other sorts of goals, either, hence why I’m sending her on a holiday.

Before she goes though, I do want to share progress from last week.
I aimed to try my hand at scrapbooking my Instax photos and read something from each of my textbooks every day, but both of these just didn’t happen.
I did, however, get a professional pedicure so that my toenails no longer had chipped apple-green on them. Honestly, sometimes I thought I had some kind of tropical toenail disease… Now they’re pearly, like tropical Mother of Pearl toenails instead. Inlaid with shell or something fancy like that.
On a completely unrelated note, I urge you to purchase a bottle of Johnson’s Baby Bath before you have your next bath. It is a thousand times more awesome than pink-grapefruit-scented-skin-conditioning-anti-wrinkle-moisturising-bath-milk, or whatever. I smell so great right now.

It’s kind of odd how I’m not at all into drugs but adore songs that are either about drugs of a hallucinogenic variety or feel ‘trippy’ when I listen to them. I think it’s my inner hippie living vicariously through music rather than actual LSD consumption. Anyway, this song by Carla Azar (here’s the Beatles version) gives off lovely trippy vibes. Unsurprising since, you know, it’s a Beatles song and it was written in the 1960s… We all know what they were doing in the ’60s: lots of drugs.
No video this week because I’m over posting ones that aren’t actual videos. Sometimes you luck out and find a really well-made fan video, but it’s sadly rare.

If you’re interested, the song is only the Sucker Punch movie soundtrack.
