  • Yoga! Definitely loving yoga this week.
  • Very much wanting a pair of these 3/4 length yoga pants in black, from Victoria’s Secret.
  • Napping, not that I’m doing much of it, but naps are nice.

What are you loving today/this week?

Teaser Tuesday

Posted by Sam on Tuesday, January 26th, 2010 at 02:00 pm

Teaser Tuesday

I haven’t done a TT in a very long time! The last one was June ’09, tsk tsk!

TEASER TUESDAYS asks you to:

  1. Grab your current read.
  2. Let the book fall open to a random page.
  3. Share with us two (2) “teaser” sentences from that page, somewhere between lines 7 and 12.
  4. BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  5. You also need to share the title of the book that you’re getting your “teaser” from … that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given.

They started on the return journey, Clifford jolting cautiously downhill. They came to the dark bottom of the hollow, turned to the right, and after a hundred yards swerved up the foot of the long slope, where bluebells stood in the light.

Goals, my day & other stuff

Posted by Sam on Monday, January 25th, 2010 at 07:26 pm

Today I accomplished one of the biggest goals of my life, which also happens to be part of my 101 Things in 1001 Days list. I got my learners driver licence! So now I can legally learn how to drive a car on the road. :D For my non-Kiwi followers, here in New Zealand one can sit the theory test to gain a learners permit at age fifteen. I’m twenty-one, so six years overdue, but at least I have finally done it!

All up it’s been a really nice day, and fairly restful. January is full of birthdays in my family (there are five!) so the last few weeks has seen me crafting and birthday shopping, celebrating and, eep, eating a lot of less-than-waistline-friendly foods! This week is going to be much less hectic and I had a really nice afternoon relaxing and catching up on internet things (blogs, emails, auctions, etc.) before getting some exercise.

Speaking of exercise, I really must do more of it. I’m trying to do something six days a week, but it barely counts if it’s less than thirty minutes! I have a yoga video (yes, as in VHS, lol) but there isn’t really much room in our tiny loft living room to do it, so my yoga workout is basically from memory, plus a few poses I cut out of a magazine years ago. Aside from yoga I’ve been walking a little bit and incorporating running intermittently with that. My fitness level isn’t good enough for me to run the whole way, but my goal is to work up to that.

I’d actually really like to join the university gym, which is $250 for 12 months, but I don’t have the money to spend on that right now, unfortunately. It would be great if I eventually join though, because I have some decent gaps between classes next semester and I could work out during them. They’ve got a climbing wall which I have my eye on! Hehe. :D

To be quite honest, I’m getting insanely bored of this summer break. While I want to make the most of summer and enjoying not stressing about studying, I really miss the learning. I miss classes, I miss the subjects and I miss the people! It’s nice to know that, so far in my academic career, I am really enjoying it and am capable of doing it well. I know some people just don’t enjoy the academic side very much and I imagine it would make life a bit difficult, especially if there is pressure from parents to get a certain degree or do extremely well.

Anyway, tomorrow morning my mum, sisters and I are off to Life Pharmacy to get facials! They’re free there at the moment and I think it sounds divine!

Before I go, I have some exciting (I think) posts coming up, including a photo one full of some epic cute, so stay tuned! In the meantime, why don’t you ask me something?

Craft Update

Crochet hat creation

While browsing random blogs a couple of weeks ago I discovered this crochet hat DIY and ever since then I’ve been addicted to crochet. So far I’ve only made one complete hat, but I have another to finish as soon as I get some more yarn. They’re a really cute style and very easy to make. I also think I might play around with tweaking the pattern at some point to see what else I can come up with. :D

Yay!

I’m also working on two other projects which will have to remain secret until the weekend because they are for gifts! Much fun has been had though, despite having only decided yesterday afternoon I was going to make birthday gifts at all. I have until Thursday and Friday to finish them! Hehe.

Are you crafty? What projects are you working on at the moment?

Things I Love Thursday (But on Friday)

I tried posting last night, but my site was down. :( Anyway, here we go…

Tyler, my nephew

  • My brand new nephew, Tyler! He was born on January 13 at 12:06pm. I may be biased, but he’s perfect, really! Hehe. :D
  • While he’s technically not the only thing I’ve been loving this week, he’s the only one I really care about sharing! Hehe.

Cats Should Pick On Critters Their Own Size

Posted by Sam on Friday, January 8th, 2010 at 10:16 am

Yesterday evening I was about to walk from the house to my bedroom (about…oooh…four steps, lol) when I spotted my cat, Molly, lying in the driveway, her two front paws out to the front. I new immediately from the look on her face and the way her tail was flicking that she must have some sort of small creature in her grip. Sure enough, as I walked closer I spotted a teeny, young, brown mouse!

Little Mouse up close

I can’t bare to witness cats toying with creatures, live or dead. The only sort I’m okay with are the fake ones made of felt or some other material! So, naturally, I had to rescue Little Mouse from Tyrant Molly. Little Mouse was so, well, little, that I didn’t want to put him or her in my hand in case I accidentally crushed the poor dear, but the only thing I had handy was…a bra of mine. So, Little Mouse was carefully picked up by the tail and placed gently in my bra cup! :ayeayeaye:

Little Mouse
To get an idea of size. So now the whole internet knows I have a nude coloured padded bra…

Before taking my new friend (I definitely consider the mouse my new friend since not only did I rescue it from a cat, but it’s seen my bra up close and personal!) to a safe spot outside I brought it into my room to take the photos. Little Mouse’s body would have only been about the size of my thumb to the first knuckle. Dinky-wee.

Little Mouse very omg-cute

Hopefully the spot I found for it was safe enough. There was an area of metal to hide under that a cat couldn’t fit in, and lots of long grass.

Visual Goals 2010: Pages 3-4 Visual Goals 2010: Pages 6-7
Some of my goals for 2010

  • San Smith’s blog posts about how she turns her goals into wonderfully illustrated and colourful visual representations inspired me to turn a boring list into something fun. Visual goals also remind me of the vision boards that The Secret talked about. Check out Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 of San’s tutorial.
  • Anticipating the arrival of my new nephew, Tyler. My brother’s partner is due on January 18 but judging by the activity of recent days Little Mister might grace us with his presence early! In preparation, I have been shopping for a gift; I am probably getting way too much enjoyment out of buying baby stuff…
  • Weet-Bix for breakfast, preferably with some tinned peaches and yoghurt!

Big back yard adventures + new look

Posted by Sam on Wednesday, January 6th, 2010 at 05:27 pm

Happy Twenty-Ten, everyone! I hope you’re having an enjoyable year so far. My week has been pretty good, except for a brief stomach bug which is getting better. I had a quiet New Years Eve with my parents, boyfriend, one of my sister’s, nephew and his friend. We let off some fire crackers and Josh and I went for a moonlit walk.

On the weekend Josh and I camped in the bush on my farm! Apparently it doesn’t count as ‘real camping’ because it’s so close to home. I guess it’s more like really, really big backyard camping? Anyway, it was the first time I’ve ever camped in there and it was lovely. We had a fire and cooked sausages and potatoes for dinner the first night, drank wine and had a great time. It was pretty successful, although neither of us had a particularly comfortable sleep so the next day we got some small mattress things from home. The second night was muuuch more comfortable!

I didn’t get any photos of our little adventure, but I’m sure we’ll go camping there again before summer is over, in which case I will definitely take my camera.

Lastly, I have installed a new theme for the site. I actually made it back in November and was going to use it from December but then I of course made that Christmas theme. I’m fairly happy with it at the moment but there are a few things I’d like to tweak. What do you think? Constructive criticism is always welcome! (Yes, I am aware I am basically recycling the same base design, shhh!)

Hi!
