927. In ten years someone else might own your house and the room you are sitting in now. Someone else might be standing right next to where you are sitting now. So that means you could be standing right next to someone but you can’t see him or her because they are ten years away.

101 Things in 1001 Days Update

Posted by Sam on Friday, November 27th, 2009 at 01:22 pm

It’s been a ridiculously long time since I’ve updated my list of 101 Things in 1001 Days, in fact I hadn’t even so much as glanced at the list since about May! Very slack of me but my excuse is that I’ve been very busy doing important things. Anyway, now I’m less busy doing important things, I thought I’d take a look at said list and to my surprise I’ve actually completed a few new things and some other things are in progress and some others require a general update. Hence the purpose of this post, obviously!

Develop more self-confidence – Completed
Ok, while technically this is the sort of thing that is continually in progress throughout life, for the purpose of this exercise I’m going to say I’ve completed it because, in comparison with this time last year, I have bucket loads more self-confidence. Hurrah!

My Niece

Posted by Sam on Tuesday, November 24th, 2009 at 08:40 pm

I babysat my niece today and before nap time (hers, not mine :p ) I grabbed my camera to take a few shots while we played. I’m slowly becoming more comfortable with the various manual settings on my camera, though by no means am I anything but amateur! Still fun to play though. :)

She insists: If she doesn’t have these clothes, she’ll look awful, the other kids will tease her, and she’ll feel like a nerd.
Do you think she should or should not wear these clothes?

867. Have you ever won a competition? Yar.
868. Who looks sloppier when they are over weight, guys or girls? Both can look sloppy, overweight or not!

We are in the universe

Posted by Sam on Friday, November 20th, 2009 at 05:00 pm

“Recognize that the very molecules that make up your body, the atoms that construct the molecules, are traceable to the crucibles that were once the centers of high mass stars that exploded their chemically rich guts into the galaxy, enriching pristine gas clouds with the chemistry of life. So that we are all connected to each other biologically, to the earth chemically and to the rest of the universe atomically. That’s kinda cool! That makes me smile and I actually feel quite large at the end of that. It’s not that we are better than the universe, we are part of the universe. We are in the universe and the universe is in us.”
— Neil deGrasse Tyson

A friend posted this quote in their LiveJournal and it resonated with me so I figured I’d pass it along. :)
Happy Friday, lovelies!

Oh Hai, Blogland!

Posted by Sam on Thursday, November 19th, 2009 at 05:06 pm

No, I’m not dead (sorry to disappoint anyone?), I just spent the last week with my boyfriend and, well, who wants to write blog posts when you can do stuff with your boyfriend instead? And by ‘stuff’ I mean movies, cooking, walking and swimming. I bet you thought I was being rude… Shame on you… XD

Now he’s gone home however, so I shall pay attention to blogging again.

Don’t you hate people like that, though? You know the ones: they’re involved with their friends, family, and activities until they get a boy- or girlfriend, and then they pretty much disappear off the face of the planet. You don’t hear from them again until a) their significant other goes away, b) they have a fight with their significant other, or c) they break up with/get dumped by their significant other. Doesn’t it make you want to pull their hair out and yell at them, or something?

I will not be one of those annoying people who abandons everything for her boyfriend. I promise! Just this last week was the exception because I was also bombarded with an awful Women’s Issue in which I felt as though my uterus was going to climb out of my abdomen and eat the nearest person (which consequently would have been my boyfriend). Not exactly conducive to writing, I tell you.

The 5000 Question Survey: Pt 25

Posted by Sam on Tuesday, November 10th, 2009 at 07:15 pm

801. How often do you change your mood in a day? If I’m PMSing then about 500, but otherwise it just depends on the sort of day I’m having, I guess. Sometimes it’s relatively stable throughout and other times it’s not.
802. When you ask people how they are doing you actually care about their answer or is it just polite? Maybe I don’t care as much if it’s someone I don’t know well and I just ask it in passing or whatever, but with friends and family and most people I do actually care.
803. Would you consider yourself to be very polite? I’m pretty polite for the most part. Certainly I feel I’m a lot more polite than many people my age!
804. Do you like movies and books that involve nuclear holocaust? Not particularly.
805. Have you ever had a lucid dream (a dream in which you knew you were dreaming and had complete control over what happened in the dream)? Yes, many.
806. Have you ever had a flying dream? No, not that I can recall.
807. Have you ever had a lucid flying dream? Lol, no.
808. What’s the oddest law you ever heard of? I think there is one in the U.S., where in some state you can’t ride a horse backwards if you’re drunk or something to that effect.
809. What is the ultimate way to connect with another person? I don’t think there is one ultimate way. It depends on the person and how you gel together, what works with one person isn’t necessarily going work with another.
810. Can you be intimate with someone without touching him or her? Of course! Emotional intimacy (i.e. verbally expressing emotions and opening up your mind/heart/soul/whatever to someone) is arguably much riskier and makes one more vulnerable than any kind of physical intimacy. And of course you can experience both at the same time. :p
811. Can men and women ever really be ‘just friends’ with no interest in anything more? I think so, though generally I tend to fail at it at some point. Then I get over it and go back to being friends. But I do tend to flirt with male friends, whether I’m interested or not, but that’s just ’cause I’m a flirt.
813. Are you addicted to this survey like drugs? No.
814. If your signifigant other wanted to wait for marriage could you hold out or would you leave them (or would you cheat)? Considering the fact I don’t place much importance on marriage, it wouldn’t matter a jot if they didn’t want to.
815. What’s the longest sentence you can make using only words that start with the same letter as your first name? No, it’s ok, I’ll pass.
816. If you had a theme song what would it be? I do have a theme song and it’s ‘Molly’s Chambers’ by Kings of Leon. I just really love than song so have adopted as ‘mine’.
817. Are you cranky? Generally, no.
818. Which group generally annoys you more, people older than you, or people younger than you? Younger. Sorry younger boyfriend (you are not annoying though)!
819. Do you refer to older people as old farts? Nope.
820. Do you refer to younger people as the kids? Yes.
821. Which is better: Poems that everyone can relate to or poems that are intensely personal to the author? I don’t really care.
822. Is it worse to be too hot or too cold? Too hot!
823. Are you so flexible that you can put your feet behind your head? I don’t know. I doubt it.
824. Would you enjoy reading fairy tales written about robots? Yes, probably! XD
825. Is smoking a turn on or gross? Gross.
826. What is the one way you wouldn’t want to die? Burning. Ew!
827. Which would look sillier on you: A cowboy hat or a Rasta hat? Cowboy, I reckon.
828. Would you rather have a job doing something indoors or outdoors? Probably indoors.
829. Would you rather learn more about human nutrition or meteorology? Human nutrition.
830. Have you ever taken honors courses? No.
831. What do you think of crop circles? They’re pretty. I don’t know if aliens did some of them, though. I think maybe creative people did.
832. Where do they come from? See above.
833. When was the last time you screwed up big time? Not for awhile. I must be due. :p
834. You have a choice. What do you eat:
A veggie burger
This.
A turkey dog
A cheese sandwich
835. Do you get a lot of random instant messages? Nope.
836. Do you have a paper journal also? I do, but I’ve not written in it for about four months.
837. VHS or DVD? DVD.
838. Vinyl, cassette tape, or CD? Vinyl and CD.
839. Have you ever seen the video/heard the song Days Go By, performed by Dirty Vegas? Yes, I think so.
840. MTV: should it play more videos or more shows? Don’t watch MTV.
841. Name a band: The Mars Volta.
Do fans of that band tend to share any characteristics with each other? Yes, often they do. Hardcore fans tend to be rather creative, I think, or at least have very good imaginations.
842. What does the expression ‘touch and go’ mean? Dangerous or uncertain, I think.
843. Caffeine or alcohol? Alcohol.
844. Betty or Veronica? And they are? I choose Veronica because of the name.
Archie or Reggie or Jughead? Again, who?
845. What book are you reading right now? The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons and The History of Sexuality Vol. I by Michel Foucault.
846. Is the news too depressing? At times it is.
847. Would you rather have a stuffed lion, elephant, pig or duck? What, a real one, but stuffed? In that case, none of them. If you mean toy, I could do with an elephant.
848. Are you late for a very important date? Nah, so quit chasing me, Alice.
849. Ever use star 69? What’s that do?
850. Is everyone as smart as you? No, unfortunately we are not all equal. Though I don’t think that should be a reason for disadvantaging people and groups of people.

Aquisitions and Other Stuff

Posted by Sam on Monday, November 9th, 2009 at 07:14 pm

My four-month long holiday from university began last Wednesday (5:30pm, to be exact) and so far my time has been filled with grocery shopping, a novelty I had not experienced in some time (seriously—and I missed it); seeing family; a Guy Fawkes BBQ on Saturday; spending time with my new boyfriend (yup, he’s pretty great, so I should probably tell my mother about him); cleaning; and shopping. Next up is finding a job and organising Christmas presents, as well as numerous summery adventures I have planned.

In other news, I am beginning to throw around some ideas for a new site design, and expect another instalment of the 5000 Question Survey and a post about the Books & Bubbles evening with Paullina Simons that I went to!

I shall leave you with a few photos of my most recent purchases:

New dress
Dress from Peachy Keen Vintage. The shop only got this in on the day I went and the owner was going to take it home for his wife. Alas, I snapped it up first! All I need is a petticoat to poof the skirt out a bit.

Attack of purple
I want one of every colour they have, please.

Shopping Adventures
Stockings and garter belt from Farmers; faux pearl earrings from Cotton on.

Hi!

I'm Sam and this is where I share stuff that I love, bits of my life, & projects I'm working on. I like hot beverages, chocolate, making things, reading blogs, & I drink too much Coke Zero.
