The super-adorable Janie of Monster Girl Writes gave the Versatile Blogger Award to me! You definitely need to check out her blog ’cause it’s fantastic and so well-written. Go. Do. Now.

I think this is my first blog award ever and now I feel all special and like I just won an OSCAR or something. Omigosh, I cannot believe it! I would like to thank…

4 Rules go along with this award:

Rule 1: Thank the person who gave you this award.
Thanks Janie! <3

Rule 2: Share 7 things about yourself.

One: I don’t particularly like much of the music that originates from my country. There is plenty of it around, but in all honesty I find most of it to be terribly, well, crap. Except this song which I am rather fond of at the moment: ‘Young Blood’ by The Naked And Famous (for some reason embedding isn’t working for me). I saw them live when they opened for Nine Inch Nails and they were pretty good. This song kinda reminds me of MGMT.

Two: If being a psychologist doesn’t work out for me, I’ll probably do interior design. I have a very big love of making living spaces look delicious.

Three: I love drinking tea, but I prefer Earl Grey over ‘regular’ black tea. Like, really prefer it. I’ll have the regular stuff if it is the only type of tea available but when I’m sipping it I can’t help thinking something is wrong with it.

Four: On the subject of beverages, I am very predictable when it comes to what I will order at certain places. For instance, at Starbucks I almost always get a grande green tea frappechino, half the sugar syrup, with whipped cream. If it’s freezing and I want something warm I will either get a chai latte or hot chocolate. Sometimes I do try different things, like at Christmas when they have festive flavours.

Five: I love my hair being played with. It makes me want to go to sleep because it’s so nice and relaxing.

Six: I love high heels but I rarely wear them. They hurt… but I own like seven pairs.

Seven: I don’t like swimming at the beach if the water isn’t calm. Surf beaches are for sunbathing only! I have a fear of drowning in rough water that I manage to forget by avoiding rough beaches and not going on boats.

Rule 3: Pass the award along to 15 bloggers who you have recently discovered and who you think are fantastic.

1. Girl’s Gone Child – Fabulous blog of a fabulous mama. I’ve been reading for a few months now and I really enjoy her posts, especially the brutally honest ones.

2. Today Is My Birthday – Pretty much every post has me in fits of laughter. This wonderful lady has such a great writing style. Loooove.

3. Today’s Letters – Super-sweet blog of daily letters about random stuff and to her husband.

4. Sometimes Sweet – Danielle’s blog may actually be my favourite find of the year. I am so, so pleased to have stumbled on it. She is a truly fantastic person!

5. Vannyyy – Really nice blog I’ve very recently found. Vanessa is studying to be a pastry chef so, yes, very yummy things do feature from time-to-time.

6. Of Mice and Manticores – Stevie’s insightful blog focuses on belief systems, science, and other interesting topics.

7. Our City Lights – Another very recent find. Diana’s blog is awesome, as is she.

Along with Janie, I’m stopping at 7 because I, too, do not have any other recently discovered blogs. In fact, some of the ones I’ve listed may not even be classed as ‘recently discovered’. More like ‘six months ago I found this blog and now I’m addicted to it and am sad when my Google Reader doesn’t have a post from them in it’.

Rule 4: Contact the bloggers you’ve picked and let them know about the award.

Off to do that right now! And then it’s wash face, get dressed and go do stuff time.

Hello all! I hope you’re having a lovely weekend; for the most part, I am. Saturday was a bit of a downer because I woke up feeling incredibly groggy with allergies and I had an awful headache for the entire day. Subsequently I wasn’t nearly as productive as I had planned to be, but nevermind. Today I’m pretty much all better except for some neck pain and a very slight headache—nothing preventing me from doing anything.

Earlier last week my dad asked me if I would create a website for our family farm, which I was more than happy to do, so I’ve been playing with that most of today. The design is close to being finished but some of the content will take awhile to be published because I’m not the one writing it. That’s actually fine with me because I’m probably a bit more at home playing with graphics and writing code.

And now for more crafty news.

On Thursday night I had an urge to make a needle book because I didn’t have anything decent to store my needles in (pin cushions are hopeless because needles can disappear inside, where they lie in wait to poke the crap out of your poor unsuspecting fingers!). I was feeling too lazy to design my own, so after much searching I finally found the cutest needle book pattern ever! Skebba designed the book to look like a letter which you unfold to reveal four pages inside for your needles. This is one of my most favourite designs for a functional item! Love, love, love.

My sewing is not overly neat because I’ve barely ever used a sewing machine, despite my mum owning one my entire life and my love of hand-sewing. One would think that I would have hours of experience, but no. I use the machine so little than every time I do use it I have to get Mum to show me how to thread it… However, I think I have finally unleashed the sewing machine junkie within me because I had a lot of fun. I even had to teach myself a couple of things (Mum had, um, gone to bed by this point so I couldn’t ask her, lol) as well: how to put new thread onto a bobbin, and how to catch the bobbin thread with the needle thread. Now I want to sew other things, but I’m not sure what. Any ideas?

Check out Skebba’s Flickr group for her tutorials!

Happy Sunday! ♥

Tomorrow I’m going to the optometrist for a check up. I used to wear glasses for eye strain while on the computer and reading, but haven’t needed them for years. Now I’m beginning to wonder if perhaps some of my headaches and tiredness are related to a problem I may have with my eyes. I would actually be quite glad if that is the case because then the problem would be fix and I could carry on as usual.

Anyway, here are a couple of links to websites I’ve been enjoying lately. Maybe you’ll like them too!

Shorpy Photo Archive. “Shorpy is an online archive of thousands of high-resolution photos from the 1850s to 1950s.” Very interesting if you’re an oldophile1 such as myself, or just looking at photos.

Saucy Swellings is a mostly public (which means you can view the posts even if you don’t have an account) LiveJournal community dedicated to bringing you photos of gorgeous, saucy interior design. It ranges from that which is not affordable to most people, to that which is cheap-but-not-nasty. I love looking through the archives as they’re great for inspiration; however, be warned that you may feel pangs of envy!

1 By that I mean someone who likes old things, not the Urban Dictionary description of a young person who is attracted to older people. Although I wouldn’t mind Liam Neeson, but that’s a whole other story…

This past week has been exhausting, though I’ve not actually done that much. I have low iron again, which fortunately is not very low, but low enough to need prescribed iron pills. I’ve always had trouble retaining iron so it’s nothing new to me; it just means I get tired easily and feel a little lethargic when it’s not at a good level.

I’ve also had horrible concentration this week, but I don’t know if that’s related to the lack of iron or not. It’s just a pain because I’m back to studying and I want to be on top of things but I feel like I’m not because I have to to do it such small chunks. It’s good to take breaks, I know, but not to the extent I’ve had to this week! It’s annoying and makes me feel guilty, even though I know I shouldn’t because as long as I get some done, even if it takes me a bit longer than usual, it’s better than nothing. I think it’s also freaking me out because it makes me wonder how on earth I’m going to cope with university when I start.

But, anyway, hopefully I will perk up after some more time on these pills and cut down on coffee and energy drinks which, for the last two weeks, have been my dearest of friends.

Totally unrelated tid-bits:

My sister and nephew are adopting a 10-week-old puppy from the SPCA. He’s a brindle Staffy cross and unbelievably gorgeous. I’m super-excited because they only live half a kilometre from me so I can steal him for walks and puppy play-time and snuggles! Best. Things. Ever. (That and my kitty-cat snuggles, of course).

I’m thinking of retiring from The Quilting Bee. I haven’t been very active with the club for over a year and I don’t feel I have the time or inclination/excitement for it that I once had. It’s bittersweet because I’ve met some lovely people through the QBee and have had a wonderful four-and-half years, but I can’t see myself being able to dedicate the time and energy to it now. I don’t think I should be a part of something if I’m not going to put effort into it.
