As mentioned in my last ‘Things I Love Thursday’ post, She & Him have made quite an impression on me since getting their debut album last week. They’re an indie-pop-folk duo consisting of the multi-talented Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward.
This particular song is a favourite of mine off the album Volume One (Volume Two is due out in March 2010). I adore Deschanel’s vocals, though I actually fell in love with her voice before ever hearing She & Him. I was on the hunt for Christmas music when I discovered her cover of ‘Baby, It’s Cold Outside’ with Leon Redbone for the Elf movie soundtrack (which you can listen to here). She really suits jazz and retro-esque songs, perhaps because she herself loves vintage.
Bon Iver (Justin Vernon and, now, band) is becoming one of my favourite artists this year. I’ve been listening to his album For Emma, Forever Ago (2007) on repeat the last couple of weeks, and his 2009 EP Blood Bank for several months. Insanely beautiful music, so do check Bon Iver out further.
I might do a little series of his stuff for the next few weeks because I love so many songs. I only picked ‘Skinny Love’ this week because it’s my current favouritest-favourite. This video is of his performance on the UK’s Jools Holland Show (brilliant music show played on Sky TV’s Rialto channel; makes me miss Sky desperately!)
I hope my tiny gaggle of readers are ok. Thanks for sticking with me, guys! Sorry for being a poor commenter on your blogs — university is very time consuming, apparently (harhar ).
